A dream place to visit for sure! The architecture, sunsets, food, culture… Mykonos is something special! So happiii to have been able to spend time on this island, but I do want to share some things you should know before going yourself.
#1 When to visit Mykonos
High season is late May to August… Shoulder season is mid September to October and typically has fewer crowds, lower prices and more personal space!
#2 Language
English is pretty much spoken by every native in Greece… matter of fact I don’t remember hearing anyone speak in Greek.
#3 Electronics
Be sure to pack a European travel adapter to charge your phones, computers, photo gear, etc.
#4 Cards and cash
Credit and debit cards are accepted throughout the island… I opted to just have euros on hand… You can exchange your countries currency at the airport or within the city.
#5 Navigating around Mykonos
You can definitely get lost in the streets of Mykonos… so Google maps will be your friend! Another great app that people use to get around is maps.me you can download the city map and access it without Wi-Fi!
#6 Smoking ehhh
NGL people smoke everywhere… even with the indoor band you may find people smoking at the bars, cafés, and restaurants. I personally don’t rock with smoking, but if you don’t either just be prepared to catch some secondhand smoke whiffs.
#7 Book everything in advance
Book flights and excursions in advance… I booked my flight with Expedia and the process was extremely smooth as it was my first time. As far as excursions… If you plan on doing anything major like renting out a private yacht (you should btw!!!) I definitely recommend booking in advance.
#8 Road safety
Look up, down, sideways, diagonal literally everywhere when crossing a road. There aren’t many stoplights so driving is free-for-all and you will get ran over if you don’t pay attention!!
#9 Shopping
Shops are usually open all day until 10 PM and some until midnight. The most common ones are in Little Venice there is literally a shop on every corner!
#10 Mykonos Nightlife
Mykonos is known as the nightlife capital of all the Greek islands! Some really popular ones are Negritas, Scorpios, and Interni!
